Cosmic microwave background with Brans-Dicke Gravity: I. Covariant Formulation

چکیده
In the covariant cosmological perturbation theory, a 1+3 decomposition ensures that all variables in the frame-independent equations are covariant, gauge-invariant and have clear physical interpretations. We develop this formalism in the case of BransDicke gravity, and apply this method to the calculation of cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy and large scale structures (LSS). We modify the publicly available Boltzmann code CAMB to calculate numerically the evolution of the background and adiabatic perturbations, and obtain the temperature and polarization spectra for the Brans-Dicke theory. In this paper, we describe our theoretical formalism in detail, and compare the CMB and LSS spectra in Brans-Dicke theory with those in the standard general relativity theory. Constraints on Brans-Dicke model with current observational data is presented in a companion paper [1](paper II).

Cosmic Microwave Background Temperature and Polarization Anisotropy in Brans-Dicke Cosmology
We develop a formalism for calculating cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature and polarization anisotropies in cosmological models with BransDicke gravity. We then modify publicly available Boltzmann codes to calculate numerically the temperature and polarization power spectra. Results are illustrated with a few representative models. Comparing with the generalrelativistic model with the...
متن کاملCosmic microwave background with Brans-Dicke gravity II: constraints with the WMAP and SDSS data
Using the covariant formalism developed in a companion paper [1](paper I), we derive observational constraint on the Brans-Dicke model in a flat Friedmann-LemâıtreRobertson-Walker (FLRW) universe with cosmological constant and cold dark matter. The cosmic microwave background (CMB) observations we use include the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) five year data, the Arcminute Cosmolog...
متن کاملGlobal Monopoles in Brans-Dicke Theory of Gravity
The gravitational field of a global monopole in the context of Brans-Dicke theory of gravity is investigated. The space-time and the scalar field generated by the monopole are obtained by solving the field equations in the weak field approximation. A comparison is made with the corresponding results predicted by General Relativity. Electronic address: [email protected] 1 Monopoles resulting ...
متن کاملAveraging inhomogeneities in scalar-tensor cosmology
The backreaction of inhomogeneities on the cosmic dynamics is studied in the context of scalar-tensor gravity. Due to terms of indefinite sign in the non-canonical effective energy tensor of the Brans–Dicke-like scalar field, extra contributions to the cosmic acceleration can arise. Brans–Dicke and metric f(R) gravity are presented as specific examples. Certain representation problems of the fo...
متن کاملCylindrical sources in full Einstein and Brans-Dicke gravity
It was shown by Hiscock that the energy-momentum tensor commonly used to model local cosmic strings in linearized Einstein gravity can be extended and used in the full theory, obtaining a metric in the exterior of the source with the same deficit angle. Here we show that this tensor is an exception within a family for which a static solution does not exist in full Einstein nor in Brans-Dicke gr...
